Mystery

Have you ever had to apologise for handing someone a cup of lukewarm, instant coffee? As much as I hate to admit it, I have been the poster girl for this coffee faux-pas many times! So, I jumped at the chance to do this three hour barista course in a quest to develop my appreciation of the humble coffee bean and more importantly, to vastly improve my coffee making skills. Careful, you will want to race out and buy a $4000 espresso machine. The whole thing is over too quick, but I suppose that's what happens when your buzzing on your own Latte's and machiato's.

Terrific mix of demonstration and hands-on experience. Obviously a topic that the presenters loved - demonstrating to a group who were equally fascinated and eager to learn. Great to be able to mix with 'students' who were in the industry, to learn very useful tips (which I don't think I will ever forget) and to enjoy the great opportunity of using the equipment and having a go myself.

The course was amazing from the beginning, learning everything from the history of the bean to how it ends up in our cup. We were taught how to use some amazing commercial, semi-domestic and domestic machines and learnt the techniques to create a consistantley great coffee. We created flat whites, afogato's babychino's... you name it, and even dabbled in latte art!

This barista course is for anyone who appreciates coffee and wants to be able to replicate the cafe quality at home. The biggest revelation for me was how to correctly 'stretch' and 'texture' milk. We can now pick when a cafe hasn't done it right or when they have been reheating milk or not adjusting the grind for the humidity. Money well spent!

An awesome introduction to making the perfect cup of espresso, cappucino, machaccino ... or whatever your heart desires! I reckon I could give my local barista a run for their money now. I used my domestic machine this morning and produced the best cappuccinos I've ever made in the 4 years I've had the machine. Thank you RedBalloon for a fantastic day out... and to a lifetime of fabulous coffee!!!
