Surf the air currents and experience Byron Bay, Mt Warning and the surrounding area in a glider! This is a spectacular flight and for two hours your pilot will take you on a journey, experiencing heights of up to 4500ft. Soar like an eagle and get a bird’s eye view of the stunning landscape below!

Gliding is indeed the ultimate soaring experience, and your pilot will introduce you to a new understanding of the skies as we use thermals, ridge-lift and possibly even wave-lift to navigate the hidden currents of rising air over the most magnificent landscape of Byron Bay.

For the duration of your flight you will be sitting either in the front or the back seat of the glider, with your pilot behind or in front of you. You will fly all the way to the volcanic caldera of Mt Warning, one of the largest extinct volcanoes in the southern hemisphere. You’ll experience gliding over mountain ranges at heights over 4,500 feet, and sometimes just few feet from the mountains and get great views of Mount Warning and the Great Dividing Range in the west of Byron Shire, all the way up to the Gold Coast!

The views are simply spectacular from this height, so make sure you have your camera with you or ask for the DVD of your flight! From Mt. Warning we continue to the northern rim of the Caldera, soaring along its rugged steep cliffs. Crossing the Kyogle Valley, we fly back over Nimbin, Mount Nadi, Minyon Falls and finally Byron Bay. On these extended flights, we are often lucky enough to encounter large wedge-tailed eagles soaring the thermals with us and sometimes they are just a few feet from our very own glider wings.

After soaring the skies over Byron Bay and the rainbow region for approximately two hours, we’ll return to the airfield where you can tell family and friends about your exhilarating gliding experience!

Guidelines:

This experience is suitable for almost anyone however you MUST be over 16 years of age to participate and weigh less than 110kg.

Numbers:

The price quoted is for one person. You will be with your pilot on the day of your experience. You can ask for a formation flight with two gliders flying close together (please give us at least 48 hours notice).

Weather:

This experience is weather and wind dependent. In the case of poor conditions we will reschedule your experience for a later date. Please contact us one or two days in advance to check weather conditions. If you are in any doubt about the weather, please contact the supplier for confirmation.

Session Length:

Flight time is approximately two hours. Flights are available all year round. Due to the nature of gliding we cannot guarantee flight time. We recommend that you make a booking at least three days in advance. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your confirmed flight time.

Extra Info:

We have more than one glider available. You are welcome to purchase an additional flight and experience formation gliding with a friend! Don't forget your camera for some unbelievable photos!
