Learn to fly a helicopter! Grab the controls of the most versatile vehicle on earth and find out what it's like to fly one for yourself. Under the safe hands and watchful eyes of a fully CASA-accredited helicopter flight instructor, take to the skies for an extreme Sydney learning experience!

Your Learn To Fly A Helicopter experience begins with a coffee and greeting with your instructor. Following this introduction you will be shown a 30-minute video on some of the principles of helicopter flight and how the controls are used to manoeuvre the aircraft, specifically a Robinson R22 helicopter. After the video, we will show you how a pre-flight inspection of the helicopter is performed so as to ensure there will be no problems during the flight.

It's then off to the whiteboard for a detailed briefing with your instructor on the precise specifics of the air exercise you will undertake. Thorough preparation is required because then...

Parked on one of our helipads will be the helicopter you will learn to fly! Get in. Go through the start up procedure. The engine fires, the rotor blades start turning. A couple of minutes later you're floating above the pad. Your instructor maintains a watchful eye and safe control of the aircraft at all times. During your 30 minute flight you learn to manipulate the controls individually. Toward the end of the flight you are flying the helicopter for yourself.

When safely back at our base, you shut down the machine and then proceed to debrief with the instructor. Could there be anything more satisfying than knowing you took that awesome machine around for half an hour?!

Guidelines:

This experience is not recommended for children who are under 12 years of age. For comfort and safety reasons, we cannot accept people who weigh more than 109kg. You also need to be over 160cm in height in order to reach the controls.

Numbers:

Trial Instructional Flights are conducted on a 1:1 basis between customer and instructor. If 2 or more of you want to have the experience together we can arrange this, however the flying component must occur individually. This is therefore subject to availability.

Weather:

A sunny day is perfect for a helicopter flight, although we are able to fly in most weather conditions. Low cloud, high winds or heavy rain can limit this however. If in doubt call us. If the weather is extreme we will call you. There is no cancellation fee – simply reschedule for a better day.

Session Length:

We are open 7 days a week between 7am and 5pm, so we can book you in at any time that suits YOU, although weekends are generally busier than weekdays and therefore more notice would be required to get the time you want. Allow around 2 hours of your time from start to finish.
